Overview
It’s Not the Fastest, Until It’s TridentX!
Memory Frequency World Record at DDR3 4404MHz
TridentXBreaking the highest DDR3 speed world record at a staggering 4404MHzMHz in 2012, the G.SKILL TridentX series is known as the world’s most powerful and fastest DDR3 memory available on the market. Named after the powerful weapon of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas, G.SKILL TridentX is imbued with extreme overclocking capabilities waiting to be unleashed in your system.
Removable Heat Spreader Fin
The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

The G.SKILL TridentX heat-spreader comes with removable top fin design. It allows overclocking enthusiasts to have more flexible options of memory cooling systems, as well as to reduce the height to fit with large CPU coolers.

Extreme Performance
Extreme overclockers and PC enthusiasts look no further, G.SKILL’s TridentX DDR3 memory will push your system to an unimaginable limit. Not only available at ultra high frequencies of 2400MHz, 2600MHz, 2666MHz, 2800MHz and 3000MHz, but also available with extremely low timings at 2133MHz CL9, 1866MHz CL8, and 1600MHz CL7!
Intel XMP Support
TridentX All G.SKILL DDR3 memory comes with the latest Intel XMP standard developed for the Intel platform. It provides PC enthusiasts an entirely trouble-free overclocking experience to boost their 4th Gen Intel® Core™ processors with Intel 8 series systems for extreme levels of performance, while retaining system stability.

TridentX Editor’s Choice at Techpowerup
If you follow my posts on the forums, you’ll find that I consider myself one of Corsair’s biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it’s been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

TridentXEditor’s Choice at Neoseeker
G. Skill’s 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor — limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill’s 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

TridentXGold Award at OverClockersClub
G.Skill’s Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill’s lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

Fast, Fast, Fast….5/14/2014 7:36:25 PM

Pros: Look great.
XMP settings worked perfectly.
Fast.

Cons: Could be a little cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Overall Review: Ram is getting a little expensive, however the premium for this DDR 2400 over DDR 1600 is just a few bucks. With a new Z87 or Z97 motherboard DDR 1600 no longer hits the sweet spot. There are serious benefits to running faster memory. DDR 2400 ram for me is the sweet spot these days and this quality Cas10 kit ticks all the right boxes. XMP worked perfectly on my Asus motherboard. It runs at 1.64V. I have not tried overclocking it, but see no reason for now.
Terrific ram, well done G Skill.

Updated Review9/17/2013 4:14:35 PM

Pros: I my last review I had a FX 4100 and stated it could not take full advantage of this RAM.
I have since upgraded to the FX 8350 on my CHVFZ and I was right. The 8350 did mke a difference. I have had these up to 2600 Mhz @ 1.65v. I did find that in benching lower timings with lower frequencies, the best seems to be @ 2000 Mhz with 9-10-10 27 T1. That is just for benching. For everyday use I keep them at 2200 with slightly looser timings and get faster and smoother performance in games and menial tasks as well.

Cons: I just wish they would not put a goofy sticker over the beautiful heat sinks.

Overall Review: RAM has gotten so expensive now but this is still worth the money.

Runs a bit hot for me7/21/2014 5:24:21 AM

Pros: Good combo price
Was able to get stable at 1.5v 1866Mhz

Cons: Consistently ran at 1.683-1.687v using XMP

Overall Review: Using an ASUS Z97-A motherboard I consistently got 1.683-1.687 volts using the 2400 MHz XMP profiles. I really don’t need 2400 MHz and I don’t want to run the voltages that high, so I played around to see how fast I could get these to go at 1.5v.

XMP 2440 1.65v (actual 1.683-1.687v)
2400 10-12-12-31 2t Memory Latency: 48.0

These were all stable at 1.5v: (actual 1.53v)
1600 9-9-9-24 1t Memory Latency: 56.1
1600 8-8-8-24 1t Memory Latency: 54.1
1866 9-10-9-28 1t Memory Latency: 51.9
1866 8-9-9-24 1t Memory Latency: 50.5

I use the last one as it gets me pretty close to the 2400 XMP but runs at a much more comfortable 1.5v.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you got the RAM at a good price. This is a very popular memory kit as you get great looks, high performance, and high capacity at a low price. As you have experienced, this memory kit is very flexible, so even if you have a CPU that can not support DDR3-2400, or if you don’t want to run the voltage higher than 1.50V, this RAM is still compatible and capable of it all. Those are very good testing results that should be helpful to many people. Extreme frequency performs best for the latest Intel CPUs, but to maintain a low voltage, a good performance level can still be had with a lower frequency and timing configuration. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

G.Skill Trident X 2400mhz 8GB5/9/2014 6:54:15 AM

Pros: It looks great and works the way it was intended. It is fast and runs at the given XMP Profile without any issue.

Fairly tight timings for 2400mhz

Cons: In my first set, one of the sticks just stopped working out of the blue. G.Skill got me set up though with a free replacement. Turn around was fairly quick.

Unfortunately, stuff like this happens, so I’m not going to knock off too much for that. Previous to that, it passed 16 hours of Memtest.

Overall Review: Some of these people are complaining that they weren’t able to get the full 2400mhz. For Intel based systems, anything passed 1600mhz is overclocking the memory controller on the CPU. It is most likely the CPU’s fault rather than the RAM. G.Skill is very helpful when it comes to asking them questions about this.

Too easy7/25/2012 6:42:35 PM

Pros: Popped into my Z77 Sabertooth — changed to 2400 in Bios, that’s it. I expected a challenge at least but what can I say? Been steady working @2400mhz for almost two months and no problems at all.

Cons: N/A
