Features
Features High workload rating
Delivering dependable performance to any storage environment, WD Gold hard drives are designed with a workload rating up to 550TB per year, among the highest of any 3.5-inch hard drive.

Enterprise-class storage to rely on
With up to 2.5 million hours MTBF, WD Gold hard drives deliver reliability and durability, are built for yearly operation (24x7x365) within the most demanding storage environments.

HelioSeal Technology
Featured in over 15 million Western Digital hard drives shipped, HelioSeal technology allows for higher capacities and less turbulence on large storage arrays. And now on its 4th generation design, HelioSeal technology is field-tested and proven to deliver high capacity, reliability, and power efficiency you can trust.

Vibration protection
Enhanced RAFF technology uses sophisticated electronics to monitor the drive and correct linear and rotational vibrations in real time for improved performance versus WD’s desktop drives in high- vibration environments.

RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER)
Reduces drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives.

Dynamic fly height technology
Each read-write head’s fly height is adjusted in real time to ensure consistent performance for reduced errors and optimized reliability.

Dual-stage actuator technology
WD Gold drives feature a dual-stage actuator head positioning system for a high degree of accuracy. The primary stage provides course displacement while the secondary stage uses piezoelectric motion to fine tune the head positioning to a higher degree of precision.

Compatibility testing
All WD Gold hard drives are extensively tested across a variety of popular OEM storage systems, SATA controllers, and host bus adapters to ensure ease of integration for a plug and play solution.

Solid drive, no issues in 8 months3/4/2019 1:11:05 AM

Pros: -Takes maybe 6 seconds to spin up when it’s been idle, great read/write speed (~100mb/s extracting a giant zip archive from a separate SSD)
-Makes the dying cow noise when your PC shuts off which I find amusing

Cons: -Not extremely loud as some people say, however if you’re doing hardcore reading/writing you can’t ignore it. But aside from specifically operating on large/many files your PC is generally not making the drive work 24/7 so it’ll be tiny muffled ticks that almost blend in with your case fans. I personally am not bothered at all by any of the sound this drive makes.

Overall Review: My case is on a wood base which rests on a carpet, I imagine that absorbs/muffles a lot of the vibration and ticking. If your case was resting on a non-carpeted floor or desk, hardcore file operations would probably be louder.

Excellent12/9/2020 8:14:41 AM

Pros: Huge capacity, very fast

Cons: A little pricey

Overall Review: Totally recommend, tried to get another one but it came in damaged
FYI, these drives are heavy and need to be shipped properly
Unfortunately most of the time they are not packed correctly
Tried 3 different vendors, all of them damaged!
People in shipping need to be trained better!
Sick of wasting my time testing drives

Excellent drive4/11/2019 8:37:03 AM

Pros: Got this at a steal of a price ($80)!
Runs just as quiet as any other drives I’ve used and has been incredibly reliable.

Cons: none yet

Overall Review: I bought this on a whim to test out its functionality in a gaming rig and I’m upset I didn’t grab a few more for that rig and my workstation.

Very noisy on startup4/7/2022 4:18:13 PM

Overall Review: This is the strangest hard drive Ive ever owned since the beginning of hard drives. Its very noisy on startup, with lots of thumping and chattering. It soon settles down and then just periodically chatters a bit. Its actual performance & capacity is outstanding.

At first I thought this new hard drive must be defective with all this extraneous noise, but Ive seen several other reviews mentioning these noises. So now I dont know what to think. I would be very curious to read some more reviews on this hard drive.

It works. It’s not overly noisy. It’s fast11/17/2020 8:12:54 AM

Pros: They work. They both worked and are performing perfectly. They are not as noisy as previous models. They work faster consistently. They are definitely an improvement.

Cons: It does always weird me out getting these WD drives and noticing them preform differently. One is actually noticeably faster than the other for reading/writing.

Overall Review: I haven’t had the best of luck with WD over the years, but I have had good experience with the WD gold lineups. I bought two of these 10 TB Gold Drives.

Works well3/10/2020 10:18:03 AM

Pros: Everything is working as it is supposed to. I’ve had no problems with it at all. I haven’t tested it’s speed, but it seems pretty decent.

Overall Review: Good product
